Anime just keeps getting weirder and weirder.
Word is in that Daichi Sorayomi’s manga Keijo!!!!!!!! (yes, it really does have all those exclamation marks in the title), also known as Hip Whip Girl, is getting a TV animation.
The manga is a sexy sporting comedy set in an alternate version of Japan where a sport known as “Keijo” is all the rage, and is bet on much like horse racing. The “sport” involves bikini-clad girls standing on floating platforms and using their boobs and butts to push their opponents off the platforms and into the water below. The story follows Nozomi Kaminashi, a girl aiming to bring wealth to her poor family by becoming a Keijo champion.
As well as plenty of gratuitous swimwear images, it of course features the crazy, impossible maneuvers we’ve come to expect as standard from a shonen sports manga…but with slightly more adult themes than you’ll see in Prince of Tennis.

Are manga artists these days running out of ideas and scraping the bottom of the barrel? Are audiences demanding their anime plumbs ever lower depths? No, I don’t think it’s fair to go that far. If done right, the anime could go on to hit all the right notes of funny, sexy, and ridiculous, but it will have to tread a careful line to ensure that it’s silly premise isn’t all it’s got going for it.
▼ Below is the first official visual for the upcoming anime adaptation.
Keijo has been running in Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine since 2013, and its 10th tankōbon (compiled manga volume) will be released on February 18. You can read the first chapter of the manga in Japanese here online for free.
