After bringing you photos of stunning sculptures at this year’s Sapporo Snow Festival, awesome amateur creations spotted in Tokyo, and possibly this winter’s most grotesque snow monster, we thought we’d seen more than enough of the white stuff for one year and were happy to see it melt away and Tokyo get back to normal. But then this epic creation appeared online and we just had to share it with you. Say hello to the bicycle-stealing badass that is the snownyan!
Although its creator has christened it the “darumanyan” (snowmen are known as “yuki daruma” in Japan, while “nyan” is a playful term used for cats), we felt that “snownyan” worked better for English speakers and internet dwellers in general. But regardless of what you call it, you have to admit that this is pretty epic.
Shared yesterday by Twitter user @syasin_man, it would seem that this giant humanoid cat was built on Saturday last week and constructed around the bicycle of an unwitting neighbour. As the Twitter user also writes, we wish we could see the owner’s face when they step outside to see this snow monster commandeering their ride…
Now, barring the appearance of a 20-foot-tall Godzilla or an entire Super Mario Bros. level made out of snow, we think it’s safe to say that we have a definite winner in this year’s snow sculpture olympics! (Seriously, though, we’d pay good money to see that level made out of powder…)
