Even now, most legal documents in Japan don’t ask for your signature, but rather that you stamp your inkan, or personal seal, to show approval or confirmation. Also called a hanko, the stamp, customarily used with red ink, leaves behind just the bearer’s last name, at least in the case of ordinary inkan.
But if that’s just too solemnly boring for you, you can also spice things up with a personal seal made that’s decorated with characters from hit anime series such as Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Clannad, and Fate/stay night that not only lets you display your love for those franchises, but is also legally binding.
It’s been a very long time since we checked in on Itaindo. When we first stumbled across the online inkan shop a few years ago, it was selling inkan with anime-style illustrations accompanying your last name. Since then, though, they’ve expanded into collaborations with legitimate anime characters, like the cast of dark magical girl series Puella Magi Madoka Magica…
and Fate/stay night, in both regular and Unlimited Blade Works versions.
When ordering through Itaindo’s website, simply input your name, and it’ll be carved into the seal. Prices vary depending on exact model and size, but most run in the 2,000 to 4,000 yen (roughly US$17-$34) range.
Key Visual Works’ major series are all represented, too including Little Busters, Angel Beats!, Air, and Clannad.
▼ Try not to get any tears on the paperwork. They’ll smear the ink.
Got a peace treaty to finalize? Why not let the guys of Hetalia do the honors?
The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls are out in force, too.
Unfortunately, not all of the designs shown on Itaindo’s website are currently available. Fans of Free! and Sword Art Online, for example, will have to keep their fingers crossed for a reissue of those series’ inkan.
However, Itaindo is still taking orders for all three of its three Madoka Magica inkan series.
Why, you can even get a Kyubey inkan! Wouldn’t he look adorable stamped onto the next contract you make?
▼ Just make sure you read the fine print, okay?
