What happens after you roll up this car’s window is bound to give you a good laugh, courtesy of Madoka Magica‘s Mami Tomoe.
Itasha come in all shapes and sizes, from our very own Mr. Sato car to Honda’s recent stylish collaboration with manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump. But no matter how impressively decked out they are with gaudy decals covering every square inch of space, it’s always a pleasant surprise when itasha somehow incorporate parts of the car itself into the overall design, as with the rear windshield wiper of this one.
Japanese Twitter lover @iwai0119 is an enthusiastic follower of itasha who likes to tweet media of any interesting cars he comes across. The following short clip is an example of one particularly clever idea that he found which utilizes parts of a car itself for a comical audience reaction:
▼ “Surreal ( ̄▽ ̄)”
https://twitter.com/iwai0119/status/901694362165231616As the car window is slowly raised, the head of Puella Magi Madoka Magica‘s Mami Tomoe comes into view. Besides the basic fun of watching her head bob up and down, there’s an added level of morbid humor here as anyone who has witnessed Mami’s gruesome fate in Madoka Magica’s third episode knows (and been left permanently scarred for life to boot). Furthermore, the text next to Mami reads, “Look, it’s the ‘death omen’ star,” referencing a Japanese myth that anyone who can’t see Alcor (a star in the Big Dipper/Ursa Major constellation) will pass away by the end of year. The “death omen” star was also referenced as such in the ’80s manga classic Fist of the North Star. Poor Mami–whoever owns this car must have a slightly sadistic sense of humor!
By the way, when he’s not snapping pictures of other people’s cars, @iwai0119 has been busy preparing his own Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII itasha dedicated to Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha’s Fate Testarossa for Machi Asobi, an anime event held every May and September in Tokushima City. Despite the festival kicking off soon on September 9, the car seems just about ready to go:
https://twitter.com/iwai0119/status/904404058055688193He’s such a devoted fan that he even frequents Japanese fast food chain Nakau because Fate’s voice actress, Nana Mizuki (pictured on the ads), has done a series of ads for the chain:
