For two days only, you’ll be able to try your hand at “Taxi Yabusame”, which involves hitting nine targets from the backseat of a cab.
Japanese taxi company Sanwa Kotsu has been getting creative with its transport options lately, offering special 60-minute drives that take in the most famous tourist sites around Yokohama and an unusual Ghost Spot Pilgrimage Tour that stops by some haunted areas in Kanagawa Prefecture. Now, for two days only, they’ve devised a brand new game for customers in the area based on yabusame, the traditional art of horseback archery. Instead of riding a galloping horse past their targets, however, participants will be shooting arrows from the luxury of a moving taxi.
▼ The longbow is replaced with a colourful plastic crossbow for the event.
The set course will be located in Minato Mirai, one of Yokohama’s business and entertainment district, with nine targets which passengers will shoot at from the rear window of the taxi as it drives by. Both children and adults are welcome to participate, with each person receiving 12 arrows at the start of the course. Scores will be tallied for each participant, with results published on the official website and prizes like free tours given out to the top scorers at the end of the event.
The special archery course will be available for two days only, on February 27-28, with rides costing 1,000 yen (US$8.30) for each participant.
