One-piece undergarment promises the joy of feeling panties on your upper body too.

Panties seem like a piece of clothing with a pretty specific, narrowly defined purpose. They’re lower-body undergarments for women, right?

But as some panty pioneers in Japan have shown, the basic design is actually quite versatile. An extra-large pair of panties, for example, makes a profoundly pervy pillowcase. Alternatively, making a pair of panties that’s too small for human use yields a handy cloth wrap to soak up the condensation from a chilled plastic beverage bottle.

The latest pushing of the panty envelope comes from Japanese company Ligre. At first glance, they might seem like the most orthodox panties possible. Made of pure white cotton with pink trim, they’re basically the archetypal image of women’s undies in Japan.

However, as your gaze continues upward, you’ll see that these aren’t any normal panties. They’re full-body panties, compete with a ribbon near the collar to mimic the one that sit below the navel on normal lingerie.

The garment is billed as a unisex clothing option, specifically as “lingerie that both men and women can enjoy.” However, the lack of shoulder straps or chest cups means it’s unlikely to provide enough support or pectoral adding to supplant a woman’s bra. The product description also sounds like it’s aimed more at men with particular tastes than women, with breathless declarations such as:

“Made in Japan to satisfy panty maniacs.”
“The joy of having your body embraced by panties.”
“Wearing panties on just your lower body is boring!”

Ligre’s promotional literature says the company manufactures the Full-Body Panties in medium, large, and extra-large sizes. At the moment, novelty retailer Village Vanguard (no stranger to feminine-looking fashion for men) is selling the large size only through its online store, priced at 3,240 yen (US$29). Orders can be placed here, with shipping scheduled for early October.
