The snowboarding mascot had everyone in stitches after this tumble on the weekend.
In Japan, products, prefectures and services all have a cute mascot character helping to promote them, and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare is no exception. One of their mascots is a cute bunny-eared character called “Kenketsu-chan“, or “Blood Donation-chan“, who goes by the name “Chicchi“. According to her bio, Chicchi’s dream is to become friends with everyone in Japan, and going by her recent appearance on the weekend, she’s well on her way to doing that, after she took a tumble and lost her head, making her an instant Internet celebrity.
The incident happened at the Tokyo Snow Festival, a Snowbank Pay It Forward fundraising event held at Yoyogi Park over the weekend, when Chicchi attempted to snowboard down a rail as part of the day’s festivities. While her form was exceptional at first, she took a tumble with an unexpected result that had the crowd in stitches.
Twitter user @t061061061 captured the tumble on video below:
https://twitter.com/t061061061/status/929229015101071360▼ Poor Chicchi! She was going so well until her head fell off!
The cute way that Chicchi’s inner self attempted to hide from the crowd of onlookers won her fans around the country.
▼ “If I can’t see them, then they can’t see me, right?“
The video has received tens of thousands of likes and retweets, with viewers leaving comments like:
“This is absolutely adorable!”
“What a reckless mascot!!”
“I’m glad she wasn’t injured.”
“I hope parents there covered their children’s eyes!”
“Right – I’m off to donate blood now!”
Chicchi losing her head might seem like a PR disaster, but it’s proved to be exactly the opposite, as it’s helped to raise awareness about the mascot and her noble cause. Now we’ll just have to wait for other mascots around Tokyo, like this smiling bright pink turd, to appear in viral videos to show us what they’re made of too!
