The makers of Japan’s cutest animal drinkware add mug handles and kawaii cats to their lineup.
Sometimes, genius comes in stages, and it makes sense, really. If you have too many epoch-making ideas all at once, it might be too much for humanity’s collective brains to handle.
So we’ve seen incremental innovations from Goodglas Japan. Its glassware designers first got our attention with their Shiba Inu drinking glasses, which use the vessels’ negative space to create an adorable pooch when they’re filled with your beverage of choice. A few months later, the company expanded the line to include the iconic karakusa (Japanese arabesque)-pattern scarves Shiba Inu so often wear in Japan.
And now, Goodglas is correcting yet another major oversight by introducing adorable cat mugs to the collection!
Two kitties are on offer, with the one above sporting a clear handle as it closes its eyes in cheerful bliss.
The alternate design comes with a black handle and an alert feline looking right back at you.
Because the cat doesn’t form until you pour your drink, the color of its coat depends on what you happen to be drinking that day. For example, in the photo below the eyes-closed cat is a lovely shade of amber thanks to the tea, or perhaps apple juice, inside the glass.
If you like the idea of a cat cup but don’t need a mug, Goodglas also has a handle-free cat design.
However, the handle-less cat also looks a little like a bear, though there are some differences with Goodglas’ actual bear glass.
On the other end of things, if you want a cute animal mug but just aren’t into cats, Goodglas also has a pair of bunny rabbit mugs.
The handle-less members of this glass menagerie are priced at 3,200 yen (US$30) each, while the mugs are just a bit more, at 3,500 yen. The entire lineup is being offered for sale at the Tokyu Hands Hands Expo interior shop in Toky’s Ginza neighborhood, but if that’s a little outside the bounds of your next shopping trip, they can be purchased online through Goodglas’ website here.
