When Fate fans find themselves sweating with excitement, Axe wants to be their humble servant.
Traditionally, hard-core anime fans haven’t had a reputation for stellar hygiene, particularly in the body odor category. This can sometimes cause problems when a large number of otaku are crammed into an enclosed space, like, say, a movie theater.
So it’s not without olfactory concern that Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel spring song is set to open this coming spring. The Fate franchise already has a reputation for high drama and saucy titillation, and since this is the climax of the theatrical Heaven’s Feel trilogy, there’s sure to be even more intense body heat and excitement perspiration from the audience than usual.
Hoping to counterbalance this is men’s fragrance company Axe, which is partnering with Fate for a special promotional tie-up. First off are a series of new illustrations with spokesmodels Rin Tosaka, Sakura Mato, Illyasviel von Einzbern, and “Sexiness please” Gilgamesh, all posing with various Axe products.
▼ Rin with Citrus fragrance mist, Sakura with Aqua, and Illyasviel with Savon
▼ Gilgamesh with Essence body spray
Right now, shoppers in Japan who purchase any Axe Fragrance Body Spray, Body Soap, Fragrance Mist, or Hand Cream can upload their receipt information to the campaign website, where they’ll be rewarded with one of 11 character art smartphone wallpaper designs.
▼ As a welcome concession to anyone who’s ever gnashed their teeth over bad draws in the gatcha-intensive Fate/Grand Order mobile game, you get to choose which design you get.
In addition, shoppers who spend more than 1,000 yen on the above-listed Axe products cane enter a drawing to win a dual-sided plastic clear file (girls on the front, Gilgamesh on the back) with a total of 100 to be given away.
Finally, splurging on 1,500 yen of Axe products makes you eligible for a drawing to win an art board signed by the characters’ voice actor/actresses (five boards for the design featuring the three girls, and five boards just for Gilgamesh) or a wall scroll (10 for each character).
And last, if you’re the type that prefers instant gratification, starting October 15 the Lawson convenience store chain will be bundling one of eight character art pins with tubes of Axe fragrance hand cream.
The pins will be given out while supplies last, whereas the smartphone wallpaper designs and eligibility for the other prizes runs until December 31. Remember, though, that Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel spring song isn’t coming out until a few months after the campaign ends, and so you’ll need to bathe/apply deodorant again before heading to the theater.
