On August 15, Japanese convenience store chain Lawson launched a Evangelion tie-in campaign to promote the November release of the film Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo.
Like any other Japanese convenience store promotion, Lawson is selling a small collection of limited-edition Evangelion goods and snacks. Among them is a package of 2 “churro sticks” called “Rei Ayanami’s Spear of Longinus,” supposedly modeled after the iconic weapon.
We bought a couple spears to try for ourselves but, upon opening the package, were surprised to see that while the “churro sticks” are similar to the Spear of Longinus in that they are long and helical, their overall shape resembles something much more…unappetizing.
It looks like Lawson was scraping the bottom of the barrel with this one, but the churros were tasty and we appreciated the flavor variety of plain and cocoa, though we would have given them extra points had they been named “Adam” and “Lilith.”

▼ Must be one of the replicas. The REAL spear would never break!
