While searching the Internet for a new kind of summer pick-me-up, our reporter came across a recipe for chicken wings stewed in Red Bull. Desperate for any way to get a little more energy during the hot summer months, and encouraged by the rave reviews online, she decided to try this bizarre dish for herself.
First, have a look at the recipe:
Ingredients
10 chicken wings
1 whole dried chili pepper
1 – 250ml can of Red Bull energy drink
2 Tbsp. soy sauce
2 cloves of garlic
1. Cook the chicken wings in a frying pan until they start to brown.
2. Put all of the ingredients except for the soy sauce into a saucepan, bring to a boil.
3. Once everything has come to a boil, add the soy sauce.
4. Place a lid on the saucepan and simmer for about 20 minutes.
5. The wings are done once the meat is no longer pink and the juices are clear.
It’s so easy to make!
When our reporter finished making the Red Bull chicken wings, she laughed at how easy it was. The meat was falling off the bone and the salty-sweet smell of the soy sauce was wonderful. The combination of protein-packed chicken and healthy garlic made for an energizing meal even without the Red Bull.
It was considerably sweet and acidic
Upon taking her first bite, our reporter couldn’t help but exclaim, “Whoa!” The chicken wings were way sweeter than she expected. “Oh that’s right, two of the main ingredients of Red Bull are sugar and glucose,” she thought. Boiling down the energy drink only serves to amplify the sugary taste. But after the first hit of sweetness, a strong kick of acidity hits your palate.

The intense flavor intermingles with the meat
After boiling the Red Bull with the chicken, it took on a bizarre chemical flavor. Our reporter doesn’t even drink energy drinks, so the taste was too intense for her.
▼ “Whoa, that’s intense!”
An expert opinion
Our reporter didn’t exactly enjoy her venture into cooking with Red Bull, but she thought an energy drink expert might have a different opinion. She asked our official RocketNews24 energy drink critic, GO, for a second opinion. After his first taste, GO wasn’t impressed with the flavor; as a man who downs four energy drinks a day, he was hoping for more of a Red Bull kick. But as he continued eating, the flavor intensified, appealing to his love of both meat and Red Bull. He made short work of three chicken wings and even wanted seconds. After finishing, GO decided that if we could actually prove that he was getting the energy benefits of Red Bull, he’d eat our chicken wings again.

▼ Smell check!
▼ “Tastes like Red Bull…but will it energize me?”
If you love energy drinks, you’ll like Red Bull chicken wings
In total, six people tried our chicken wings stewed in Red Bull. Only our reporter and one other person didn’t enjoy them, the rest (who regularly consume energy drinks), said they were delicious.
These Red Bull chicken wings aren’t for the faint of heart, but the more adventurous eaters out there might enjoy the sweet/acidic taste. Give them a shot and tell us what you think!
