This is not your average cat meme. So soon after our exploration of Master Roshi’s secluded island, we’ve stumbled upon a picture that we’re convinced is the immortal cat from Dragon Ball, Korin (aka Karin, for those of you more acquainted with the original Japanese or manga).
Now, I know what you might be thinking. There are a lot of smiling white cats in the world. What makes this one so special? Honestly, it’s hard to say. It could be the overall accuracy and the appropriately mysterious air of the picture. Or, it could be the cat’s steady approval from Japanese Netizens! Take a look and decide for yourself!
Just look at that coloring! The plump, round body! The fluffy fur! Those tiny, thin eyes! And that tiny impish smile! Somebody, get this cat a cane, and we’ll have the real Korin on our hands!
▼ For those in need of comparison, here’s Korin from the Dragon Ball anime.
Quite a match, right?
There’s no word as to where this photograph was taken. Some guess that it’s either Japan or China, though at the very least it’s probably not a residence. Maybe the building in the background is a storehouse for Korin’s miraculous Senzu Beans!
As it turns out, the character Korin was initially modeled after Koge, the cat owned by Akira Toriyama, writer and creator of the Dragon Ball manga series. However, the name Koge, meaning “burn,” would imply that the cat had light brown fur, the color of toasted flour. Korin, on the other hand, is pure white. So, it really seems that after hundreds of years of living like a fairy tale at the top of his secluded tower, the character has become real and descended to earth. Perhaps he is here to find his next worthy pupil.
