In celebration of Cat Day on February 22, Nestle Purina created a cat food-themed dining experience inspired by their popular “luxury cat food,” Mon Petit. Diners were treated to a full course set meal with items that resemble the snacks you’d feed to your beloved pet. With feline waiters and plenty of kitty products, the bizarre restaurant actually turned out to be a huge success. But since it was only around for a total of four days, many cat lovers and adventurous eaters were left without a chance to dine like an animal, so Restaurant Mon Petit is now back in Tokyo for an entire month.
First off, let’s refresh your memory on the wonderfully bizarre menu items available at Restaurant Mon Petit:
The Appetizers
▼ The turkey terrine looks like an overturned can of cat food.
▼ As does the tuna with Japanese-style bonito flakes.
▼ The creamy soup with two types of seafood doesn’t look like any kind of cat food we’ve ever seen…maybe a saucer of chunky milk?
▼ Here is the chicken and turkey blend and cheese with what appears to be cat treats on top…they’re actually crouton-like crackers.
▼ This is the tender chicken breast cooked in a thick soup…it looks a little like something that comes out of a cat, rather than something that goes into one.
The Main Course
Your choice of fish or meat.
▼ Grilled fish in a creamy sauce
▼ Grilled beef
Dessert
▼ Crème brûlée with a Mon Petit chocolate and cat snack-inspired cookies.
The course meal costs a somewhat expensive 5,000 yen (US$48.90) per person. However, you’ll receive a few extras during your meal, like a pair of necomimi mind-controlled cat eats to wear while you dine. Here’s Restaurant Mon Petit’s maître d’ presenting a pair of necomimi:
So if you fancy yourself some cat food, but can’t quite bring yourself to eat your pet’s snacks, make a reservation at Restaurant Mon Petit before the end of April!
