Here are some creepy crawlies we wouldn’t mind coming across in our kitchen.
Summer is upon us, and for many children in Japan that means catching bugs or keeping them as pets, either at home or at school. Summer is also a great time culinary experiments, so why not combine food and insects? For bug-loving kids and adults, these Japanese-style sweets are a delicious way to satisfy anyone with the insect “bug”, while keeping the real things out of the house.
These amazing cooking tutorials come from online content creator Mikko-san on Niconico Douga (a Japanese video-sharing site similar to YouTube), and we promise the results are a lot tastier than they look. We’ve listed translations of the ingredients below each video, just in case you need them!
▼ Stag beetle larvae filled with sweet red bean paste
▼ Centipede made from rice flour and tofu
▼ Caramel cockroach
▼ Sweet spider (Not an insect, of course, but just as cool!)
And finally, for any Studio Ghibli fans out there:
▼ Chocolate Ohm from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (made by Spider-Man?!)
Guess Deadpool was too busy promoting his new movie to give Spidey a hand, but here’s a little something you can try whipping up for that special Valentine.
If any of you are adventurous enough to give one of these recipes a try, let us know how it turns out in the comments!
