“We are EYEDROPS! Sworn to protect planet Eye!”
Japan seems to have no qualms when it comes to turning bizarre things into anthropomorphized cute girls. We’ve seen beer turned moe and Japanese self-defense forces turned moe, and Toyota even transformed literally every single part of the automobile into a moe mascot.
And now Japanese medicine company Santen has entered the kawaii fray with their own moe mascots: the EYEDROPS, a team of eyedrop ingredients transformed into cute girls who protect the planet Eye.
We’re not joking, check out the intro episode here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9naE0aFXbaU
▼ Let’s meet some of the cast!
There’s Vitamin B6…
▼ …and, uh, Neostigmine Methylsulfate…
▼ …oh, and who could forget Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride!
▼ And don’t count out, uh, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizat!
▼ Rounding out the list is Chondroitin Sulphate Sodium
with an almost-pronounceable name.
You know… it’s not actually half bad. The designs are cool, and if you watch the video the voice acting is spot-on. Even the girls’ ridiculously long and complicated names kind of add to the charm.
Here’s what Japanese netizens thought about the moe-ified medicine:
“EXCUSE ME CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN WHAT’S GOING ON???”
“I had no idea Santen was run by otaku.”
“Those are some looooong names.”
“I’m already a fan of Vitamin B6-chan.”
“No way! Dipotassium Glycyrrhizat-chan is where it’s at!”
“Please. Chondroitin Sulphate Sodium-chan is obviously best.”
Seeing as the episodes already have people online arguing over their favorite mascot, it seems to be working well.
You can watch more at the official EYEDROPS website or Santen’s EYEDROPS YouTube page. Only episode one is out now, but at least three more are on the way, so be sure to subscribe so you’ll know when you can watch more planet Eye-saving action with your own well-moisturized eyeballs.
