Senior police official quoted as saying, “I have never heard of this behavior, but it’s sick.”
Since August of 2016, Inage Station in Chiba City as been under siege by a man assaulting junior and senior high school boys by suddenly inserting his finger into their mouths.
In each of the eight reported cases so far, the man is said to have stopped a student on their way home between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. He would ask them a question like “Where is the station?” and at some point during the conversation jam his finger into their mouths. After a moment that must have felt like an eternity to his victims, the man then rode off on his bicycle.
The string of assaults has baffled and grossed out both police and citizenry alike. Readers of the news online had this to say:
“That is one expert level pervert.”
“That’s creepy….”
“I guess I would try to bite it, but then again I would be afraid of what would happen after I bit it.”
“It’s like some kind of yokai.”
“Oh yeah. I’m sure if he was handsome, those guys wouldn’t have complained.”
“He is a whole different breed of pervert.”
“I would be too surprised to even react if that happened to me.”
Although there are no reports of injury or attempted abduction in these cases, Chiba Police are reminding everyone in the Inage area to stay alert. The attacker is described as a young man about 170 centimeters (5 feet, 7 inches) tall with short black hair…which narrows the possible suspects down to about 87-percent of the young men in the area.
Although not as elaborate as secretly squirting mayonnaise on people or as outwardly vile as puking on people while riding past them on a bike, there is something deeply disturbing about the simple act of a stranger sticking their finger in your mouth, and it does seem to indicate that a new plateau of perversion may have been reached on the mean streets of Japan.
