The first couple of Nintendo grace the legally binding documents.
Nintendo’s Super Mario and Princess Peach have known each other for a long time. Their first face-to-face meeting, at the end of the original Super Mario Bros., came 32 years ago, so most would say they’ve had plenty of time to get to know each other and figure out what sort of relationship they want.
However, their relations have been remarkably chaste, with only a scant few shows of public affection. Some fans even went so far as to speculate that Peach secretly harbors feelings for her periodic captor Bowser, a theory lent some credibility by the turtle tyrant’s child, Bowser Jr. calling Peach “Mama” in Super Mario Sunshine (although Peach herself denies any knowledge of such a familial connection).
But it seems like Mario and Peach’s hearts really do belong to each other, seeing as how the iconic video game couple now graces legally binding wedding registration forms in Japan.
The princess of the Mushroom Kingdom can be seen planting a smooch on her sweetheart’s cheek on the illustrated form, which is bundled with the latest issue of Zexy Kaigai Wedding, an overseas venue-focused offshoot of Zexy, Japan’s most popular wedding-planning magazine.
Also included as freebies is a wedding welcome card in which the couple swaps their regular outfits for fancy wedding attire.
Unfortunately, the card is really only useful if you’re getting married in Hawaii. On the other hand, the waterproof case, the third extra that buyers get with the magazine, should come in handy for seaside trips anywhere in the world.
The issue of Zexy Kaigai Wedding with the Super Mario wedding registration form (which comes on the heels of new Sailor Moon and Pokémon counterparts) is on sale now. Just remember that marriage is supposed to be a “till-death-do-us-part” deal, so you’ll want to choose your spouse wisely, especially if you plan on matching Mario’s impressive longevity.
