Eat the walls, ceilings, floors and stairs of a dozen different stations!
Whether you’re shopping for an anniversary, a season, or the upcoming White Day on March 14, there’s a chocolate for just about every occasion in Japan. And now, there’s a box of sweets especially designed for the Tokyo train enthusiast that looks set to be one of the most sought-after purchases of the year.
Called Toei Détail, these chocolates have been created exclusively for subway operator Tokyo Metro by Japan’s Palet D’or chocolatier Shunsuke Saegusa. What makes these chocolates so special is the fact that they’ve been moulded to resemble various design features seen at a number of train stations along the network.

Bottom (left to right): Toei Asakusa Line Asakusa Station Platform Floor, Toei Mita Line Jimbocho Station Platform Wall
The 12-piece set includes three milky white chocolates, three bitter chocolates with a vanilla fragrance, three made with natural strawberry powder, and three featuring the tropical flavour of passionfruit. And to recreate the feeling of biting into a wall or stairway, Saegusa has added tiny rice-puffs and cookie pieces into the mix.
Only 1,500 boxes will be sold across three different stations, with sales locations at (left to right): Toei Shinjuku Line Shinjuku Sanchome Station (at the C1 exit); Toei Oedo Line Shinjuku Nishiguchi Station (at the tickets gates in the direction of JR Shinjuku Station); Toei Oedo Line Tocho-Mae Station (At the A3 exit).
The sales locations will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on 11-17 March or until stocks sell out. With each box priced at 2,000 yen (US$17.89) each, these won’t last long, so make like this train-riding turtle and get in early for a taste of the Tokyo Subway while you can!
