It’s that milestone of life that every young man waits for. When the moment comes he takes a breath, bows his head and asks for something that will change his life for ever.

We’re talking, of course, about getting 10,000 retweets on Twitter. This amazing dream came true for another lucky man in Japan recently. He also happened to get engaged too – which we think is super.

It all started with a texting session between the young man and his girlfriend. The following is a translation of that fateful exchange.

“Hey hey”

“What?”

“If you can get 10,000 retweets, We’ll get married?”

“Really?”

“Seriously!”

“For real? Are you sure?”

“If you get 10,000 retweets.”

“Okay got it.”

“Good luck.”

And with the stage set our intrepid young man used the lure of marriage to achieve his goal of 10,000 retweets. He tweeted a screen shot of the conversation and the message:

“So that’s what Rika told me. I really want to marry her, so if you’d please.”

Suddenly, Twitter’s shrunken heart grew three times larger and people began retweeting by the boat load. Before he knew it, the young man had well over his intended target of 10,000.

Netizens also got together and celebrated his triumph with comments such as “a RT beggar, I think I’ve seen this before” and “way to leave your major life decisions up to a SNS.” Indeed, the internet was showing its love with these were relatively gentle flames to mark this momentous occasion.

“Dreams do come true” he must have thought as he stared at the digits on the screen basking in his success. There was nothing to do now, except buy a ring, put a deposit on a banquet hall, meet his future in-laws, get a new home…
