With feline-inspired marshmallows, lattes, and confectionaries, you could actually spend the whole day in Japan consuming nothing but cat-shaped treats. But while that diet would easily help you meet your recommended daily requirements of cuteness, there’re also a lot of calories in those feline-inspired delicacies.
Still, there’s nothing wrong with the occasional indulgence, as long as you also get enough exercise to balance the scales as opposed to tipping them. Going for a nice, after-dessert walk can be a great way to burn off some of those calories you just took in, and it only makes sense that if your love of cats is what got the cycle started, it should be there with you for the next step, too, with these cat-shaped shoes from online retailer Rakuten.
Starting off with something simple, these pumps carry their cat-theme all the way to their name, Nyanps (nyan being the Japanese equivalent of “meow”).
While the eyes and whiskers are most noticeable on the color above, if your superstitious nature just won’t let you wear black cats, you can also get the same style in brown or beige.
There’s even more secret kitty goodness hidden inside, with a paw-print pattern.
Women who prefer a chunkier sole may instead want to opt for these suede numbers.
At 3,980 yen (US$36.60), they’re a little more expensive than the 1,574 yen bargain pumps we talked about before them, but still reasonable for such unique footwear.
This similar line, with a slightly different face, offers a few more colors, and also leopard-print insoles, for if you like your cats more predatory than pet.
Despite the extra variety and flourish, they’re slightly cheaper than the first set of strapped shoes we showed, at just 3,600 yen.
If you need something a bit more girlish than sophisticated reds and purples, some shoemakers also have pastel cat kicks.
At 2,632 yen, these get extra style points for their contrasting heels.
But maybe your fashion tastes run more wild than cute. If that’s the case, might we suggest these, which come in either a satin or suede finish.
▼ Nyaa, indeed!
At 1,186 yen a pair, you’d have a hard time finding cat shoes, or any shoes, really, that are more affordable.
If you want to add even more impact, these platforms will set you back 3,980 yen. Sure, they’re a little pricy compared to some of these other options, but a few inches of extra height doesn’t always come cheap
They’re not exactly subtle, but then again, how sad would it be if you went to all the trouble to slip on a pair of cat shoes but nobody noticed them?
And finally, when you’re ready to step up to making a moderate investment in feline fashion, these 8,000 yen heels are waiting for you.
From their color to their design that feature a Hello Kitty-like crimson boy and even a stylizer tail wrapping around the back of your heel, they’re undeniably a bold choice. But when your goal is to make a statement, and that statement is “meow,” we can’t think of a clearer way to do so.
