From May 27 you will apparently be able to eat ‘the most delicious food in the world’ at family restaurant chain Denny’s! Are they just blowing their own horn here? Well, not exactly.
When they say it’s the ‘world’s most delicious food’, they’re talking about the type of food rather than their own particular version of it, although I’m sure they’re hoping that some people will feel this way about it. The dish in question was chosen for the number one spot on CNN Travel’s list of the world’s 50 most delicious foods, and that dish is massaman curry. Originally from southern Thailand, it is now enjoyed around the world thanks to the proliferation of Asian restaurants, and handy packet sauces in the supermarkets that make you feel like a chef without the effort.
Denny’s will be offering a curry that promises to match the authentic Thai flavouring by mixing local spices such as tamarind, with its unique fragrance and sourness, into a sauce right there in Thailand, then importing this to Japan. Adding coconut milk and peanuts will add a sweetness to the spicy sauce, and create a rich, full flavour. Gently cooked chicken, peppers, and aubergine add a splash of colour, and a sprinkle of roasted peanuts makes a deliciously crunchy topping that complements the smooth texture of the curry. Mmm…if what they produce is even half as good as the description makes it sound, then I’ll definitely be going back for more!
The curry’s debut will coincide with Denny’s ethnic themed food fair, where they will also be serving the following popular Southeast Asian dishes:
▼ Tom yam kung pho (894 yen, US$8.70)
▼ Chicken and vegetable pho (797 yen, $7.80)
▼ Beef pho (948 yen, $9.30)
▼ Ga pao gai (932 yen, $9.10)
▼ Nasi goreng (894 yen, $8.70)
▼ Pineapple and coconut pancakes (599 yen, $5.86)
Spicy mains and a dessert that sounds like a pina colada will be just the thing for hot, sunny days this summer!
