For Japanese women on a mission to get married to the perfect guy it’s important to know what to look for in a man, but there’s a lot of women out there who don’t know if they’re picking up on the right things. This quiz from a Japanese TV show is designed to help. There are nine simple questions with two possible answers for each. One answer is the good trait to look for while the other is the one to avoid. Do you know what you should be looking for in a potential husband?
Note: Take this quiz with a huge helping of salt.
1. Which would you prefer to hear from the man you love?
A: “I want you to be with me forever.”
B: “I’ll be with you forever.”
If you chose A, you apparently don’t know what to look for in a man.
At first glance B seems more proactive, but put it another way and it’s proof of his excessive confidence in himself. These guys have a tendency to break things off because they think they’re better than their partner.
2. Do you prefer tall men?
A: Yes.
B: No.
If you chose A you don’t know what to look for in a man.
According to a follow-up survey of graduates of an American military academy, tall men had a higher rate of divorce. Height is seen as attractive in a man and he himself will think of himself as popular, so many of them will choose to divorce if the marriage isn’t going well. In the same way their re-marriage rates are also high.
3. Do you prefer men who always reply to your messages or men who don’t?
A: Men who don’t always reply.
B: Men who always reply.
If you chose B you don’t know what to look for in a man.
Men who always reply to your messages have a strong tendency to demand the same of their girl. They’re more likely to become stalkers or require excessive amounts of attention.
4. Which attracts you more, dog lovers or cat lovers?
A: Dog lovers.
B: Cat lovers.
If you chose B you don’t know what to look for in a man.
Male cat lovers tend to be more effeminate and self-centered, and can be more affectionate towards their cats more than their wives. Many cat lovers are also artists types and tend to take things at their own pace. On the other hand, dog lovers are active within organizations and it’s thought that they are likely to have successful careers.
5. When getting married do you want a guy who is picky about the venue or who isn’t?
A: Is picky.
B: Isn’t picky.
If you chose A you don’t know what to look for in a man.
When getting married, women tend to be more concerned with things other than the actual marriage such as the venue and the new home, which are also important aspects. On the other hand, it’s important for men to value the marriage itself. If you’re both picky about the venue then it’ll likely lead to arguments.
6. Do you prefer M or S men? (M stands for masochist and S for sadist, and in Japan these terms are used to denote personality types rather than sexual fetishes.)
A: M.
B: S.
If you chose A you don’t know what to look for in a man.
Once married both men and women gain ‘happiness weight’. When the wife insults an S husband it’ll motivate him to get on a diet, but do it to an M husband and he’ll enjoy it and won’t make an effort with the diet. And it’s not just diets – S husbands are more likely to work hard at other things too.
7. Do you prefer men who give gentle kisses or passionate kisses?
A: Gentle kisses.
B: Passionate kisses.
If you chose B you don’t know what to look for in a man.
Men who kiss with consideration for their partner tend to give gentle kisses. If you’re thinking of marrying the guy then you want someone who can be considerate of you, so we recommend going for the gentle kisser.
8. Do you prefer a guy who listens to what you’re saying or not?
A: A guy who listens.
B: A guy who doesn’t listen.
If you chose A then you don’t know what to look for in a man.
At first a guy who listens to and goes along with anything you say seems great, but ultimately they tend to push responsibility onto the woman. Guys who don’t listen to what you’re saying can actually be said to hold their own opinions and have their own sense of responsibility.
9. If a guy is invited out for work drinks when you’re meant to be going on a date, do you want him to turn them down and come to you, or to go out with them?
A: Come to you.
B: Go out with them.
If you chose A then you don’t know what to look for in a man.
When it comes to his future, it’s important for him to go out and have drinks with his superiors. It can be stressful, but he’ll also show that he has the strength to push through it.
What do you think of this quiz and its answers? Let us know in the comments section below.
A lot of these are very dependent on Japanese culture, for example going out for drinks after work (nomikai) is super important in Japanese business culture and can be make or break for your career, and the S and M personality types probably don’t make much sense to non-Japanese readers. All that being said, I still don’t think these tips are particularly helpful, and some of them seem like ridiculously bad advice. I mean, what are cat-loving girls supposed to do if we’re not meant to marry a fellow cat lover? And should all male cat lovers be forever alone?!
