Sister Cristina the nun popstar first came to Japan just the other day to promote her new album, give a small concert, and of course bestow some spiritual advice to questions taken from the audience.
One of those questions was about a man’s addiction to potato chips, and what he could do to overcome it. In suave sister-style, Sister Cristina advised him to try eating some other foods, and perhaps limit his chip intake, though she did mention that she is a fan of potatoes in all forms herself.
That set off a lightbulb in our heads, and we here at RocketNews24 wasted no time in sitting down with Sister Cristina to ask her the real hard-hitting question that everyone wants to know: would she be willing to try some Japanese chips and rank them for us? Watch the video after the jump!
Being the kind woman that she is, Sister Cristina actually accepted our ridiculous invitation with a smile, and we presented her with following six bags that we felt represented a nice variety of Japanese potato chips:
▼ Karamuucho (hot chili flavor), the unimaginatively named Potato Chips (consommé punch), Potato Chips (light salt), Wasabeef (wasabi and beef flavor), Pizza Potato (pizza flavor), and The Poterican (sour cream and onion)
Sister Cristina had never tried any of them before, so she was just as excited as we were to start. Here’s the full video with a translation below:
RocketNews24 (R): All right, let’s start the taste test!
0:42
Cristina (C): Pretty much any chip is probably going to be good. (Eats.) This is my first time experiencing this kind of flavor, but it’s good.
RocketNews24 (R): Thank you. This next one is a little spicy.
C: (Eats.) Oh. Yes. Good, but definitely spicy. Water please! (Eats the next one.) I can’t even tell my mouth is still burning. (Drinks.) Okay, I’ll try another. (Eats.) Oh yeah, this is a pretty typical chip I think.
R: Well this next one is pretty different.
C: (Eats.) Definitely different. What is it?
R: It’s wasabi.
C: Ah that’s why I like it. I love wasabi. I’ll have another. (Eats.)
R: Okay, last one.
C: (Eats.) This is an interesting flavor. I’ll try another. (Eats.) It’s new for me. It tastes like it has onions or something.
R: It’s sour cream and onion.
C: It’s good. All right, here’s my ranking. Although I think you already know what my number one is. Take a guess.
R: Wasabi beef?
C: Oh yes. That’s number one. The spicy one is number two. Third is the pizza one. Then the consommé one, that was my first time trying that, so it’s number four. Then sour cream and onion, and the classic one in last place. The wasabi one is very good, I want to come back to Japan and have it again. Thank you!
R: Thank you very much.
▼ Glad to know I’m not the only one who made that face after trying wasabi and beef chips (although if they’re too spicy for you, there is an alternative).
Again, here’s the official Sister Cristina ranking of Japanese chips:
#1: Wasabiifu (wasabi and beef flavor)
#2: Karamuucho (hot chili flavor)
#3: Piza Poteto (pizza flavor)
#4: Poteto Chippusu (consommé punch)
#5: The Poterican (sour cream and onion)
#6: Poteto Chippusu (light salt)
Do you agree with her ranking? Personally I think my own ranking would’ve been almost the complete opposite, but hey, maybe that’s why I’m not a singing nun! Let us know what you think in the comments.
