Hello Kitty is one of Japan’s greatest cultural exports and one of the world’s most famous cats despite being both a) fictional and b) not quite a cat. But now, the pinnacle of Kitty-chan merchandise has been reached. We don’t need to buy any more cute pens or candy or even any toy money.
What is the Hello Kitty merchandise to end all Hello Kitty merchandise? Nothing less than a Hello Kitty diving suit.
The range of dry suits and accessories is a collaboration with World Dive, an Osaka-based company which makes (you guessed it!) diving suits and underwater wear.
▼ Like this Hello Kitty suit.
The full-body suit is a limited edition (of course!), with only 50 being made, and retails at 349,000 yen (US $2822). No doubt, it’ll sell out quickly.
▼ Heck, we’d buy all fifty if we could.
You can also purchase this Kitty-chan dive hood – which comes with a giant red bow on it – for a mere 28,800 yen ($234).
▼ Oh me, oh my.
▼ There’s a black one too, with a slightly less ridiculous bow (25,800 yen, $210).
Or, you could just get this ankle weight (3,900 yen, $32). I don’t know about you, but I’ve always wanted to be weighed down to the ocean floor by Hello Kitty and her ribbons.
So if you’re not sure what to do with all your time waiting for the Hello Kitty movie, now you can buy a diving suit and spend the next few years pretending to be Kitty-chan underwater! Maybe if you’re really luck you could have a tea party with Nemo.
