We knew it was going to be sailor-tastic, but it’s better than we imagined.
Maybe you were just as excited as we were when we found out about the special exhibit at the Tokyo City View Observation Deck Gallery in Roppongi Hills. Perhaps you wished for special advanced passes so you could bask in all the Sailor Moon memorabilia without people from the general public around to bother you. Since the exhibit opened on April 16, you probably won’t get that chance, but we can show you what we saw during our visit!
We know that any serious fan is going to take their time and look at everything that is on display, but there were few things that really stood out for us when we had our sneak peek recently.
If you are/were a collector, you’re going to love it
There are so many collectables assembled together for this magical exhibit, it’s hard not to get lost in the nostalgia. Toys, books, cards and more are all magnificently set up for visitors to enjoy. You’ll definitely look through them and remember the pieces that you owned yourself or wished you could have added to your collection. There are even Sailor Moon-themed motorized rides, the ones you’d find at a mall or a supermarket, that still work and are waiting for your money!
▼ Ride me to the moon?
▼ Cats and a fighting game!
▼ So many collectable cards…!
▼ Sailor Moon food, sealed for freshness and value.
We only wish we could have attended the court of Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endymion
One of the centerpieces of this exhibit is the exquisite costume taken right out of a scene of the comic. It’s impossible to miss how the Swarovski crystals catch the light, or how elegant and regal the fabric looks. With the long train and magical staff, it’s exactly the kind of outfit you’d expect a real moon queen to wear.
▼ We bet quite a few fans are thinking, “Yeah, I would get married in that.”
▼ And with cute crescent moon earrings to complete the outfit!
The collection of Naoko Takeuchi art is simply breathtaking
Fans will get a chance to see some rare artwork drawn by the famous artist up close. You’ll find art that comes from the original 1992 serialization, art that was specifically commissioned for the exhibit, and everything in between. Each of the colorful pictures is worth a second look to get the full impact of Takeuchi’s great abilities.
▼ We wish we could show you all of the images, but there were just too many.
▼ The wall is as shiny as the pictures that hang on it!
▼ Full color and line art fills this wall.
If that wasn’t enough, there are also formal chronological exhibits, a short movie, and props from the stage musical — basically everything a Sailor Moon fan could want! Make sure you head to Roppongi before June 19 to catch this exhibition for yourself. A chance like this only comes up once in a Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon!
