Tokyo Metropolitan Police to collaborate with World of Final Fantasy to promote traffic safety.
Square Enix is set to release the World of Final Fantasy PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita game on October 27. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police decided to utilize the game’s release for a collaborative campaign to promote traffic safety.
The traffic division of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police made a poster that aims to put an end to traffic accidents. The poster’s title reads, “Traffic Accident ‘Final’ Declaration: Make It Not End in Fantasy.” The poster also asks pedestrians and drivers to make eye contact at intersections to avoid accidents.
This is not the first time that Japan’s police have used cute characters to promote safety. Police in Matsudo produced a poster with a pixiv artist for “Zero Crime Day” in 2011, and it handed out “moe cards” to help prevent crime that same year. Patlabor featured on a poster for Japan’s National Police Agency to remind cyclists to follow traffic rules in 2014, and the Patlabor AV-98 Ingram appeared in front of Himeji Castle to promote traffic safety in 2015.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Police also collaborated wtih Mimana Orimoto‘s Bakuon!! manga series for a motorcycle traffic safety campaign in 2014. The campaign safety events sold tie-in goods, like autographed posters, magnets, stickers, and a large raffle.
Unfortunately, there is no indication that the current Final Fantasy campaign will offer collaborative goods. But the police might want to rethink their cooperative choices for traffic safety promotion. Final Fantasy characters apparently don’t wear seatbelts!
Let’s hope they at least buckle up before their car starts to fly.
