Planned premium DLC that “takes place in the world of Gravity Rush 2” will be offered for free
Game designer Keiichiro Toyama announced through the official U.S. PlayStation blog on Wednesday that Sony has delayed the Gravity Rush 2 PlayStation 4 game to January 20, stating that although “production is proceeding smoothly, the landscape for that release date has changed dramatically.” The game was previously set for a December 2 release in North America and the United Kingdom, a December 1 release in Japan, and a November 30 release in Europe.
The game’s Japanese website now lists a January 19 release date.
Toyama stated that the game’s online features heavily feature “asynchronous player interaction,” so the development team wanted “as many people as possible playing the title at the same time,” thus necessitating the delay.
The developers will release a planned premium DLC for the game for free due to the delay. The DLC “will take place in the world of Gravity Rush 2.”
Those who pre-order the game from participating retailers will receive alternate white costume DLC for Kat, as well as the Select Soundtrack featuring nine tracks from the game. Those who pre-order the game on the PlayStation Store will receive an instant reward of 10 PSN avatars from the game starting on August 2.
The sequel game introduces the new character Angel, “who shows up to help Kat when she’s in a bind, quickly dispensing of a group of pesky Nevi enemies. Angel is a superheroine with an aggressive and wild fighting style, and packs an overwhelming punch to her attacks. She also has a crystallization ability that helps her to regenerate health instantly.”
The game will also feature three gravity manipulation styles: in addition to the regular gravity manipulation from the first game, the game introduces Luna style, which makes the player character Kat lighter and quicker, and Jupiter style, which makes Kat heavier and more powerful. The game will also feature tag team battles.
The game is getting a prequel “special animation” by Khara, the studio behind the new Evangelion films. Gravity Rush The Animation ~ Overture ~ bridges the gap between the original Gravity Rush and the sequel.
A remastered PlayStation 4 version of the original 2012 Gravity Rush PlayStation Vita game shipped in Japan last December, on February 9 in North America, and on February 10 in Europe.
