Pick your slice carefully — one of them is spiked with one of the hottest chillies in the world.
Eating pizza in Japan can be an entirely different experience to eating it back home. Not only do you get to enjoy toppings like ramen and KitKats, but companies here love thinking outside of the box with their delivery campaigns, offering us everything from discounts for mask wearers to romantic kabe-don experiences for Valentine’s Day.
Now, as Halloween peers its head around the corner, Domino’s Japan is adding a bit of sweetness and spice to the celebrations, with two new limited-edition pizzas.
The first one on the table is the Halloween Roulette Pizza, which is even hotter than last month’s jalapeno-topped Tsundere Pizza, as one of its slices is spiked with bhut jolokia. Also known as ghost pepper, bhut jolokia was certified as the world’s hottest chilli pepper in 2007 by Guinness World Records.
▼ “Who will be the lucky one to get the super hot slice?”
While the ghost pepper has since been stripped of its number one title by new varieties, it’s still the eighth hottest chilli in the world, and with its rating of more than 1 million Scoville Heat Units, it’s 400 times hotter than tabasco sauce, making it difficult, if not impossible, for many to handle.
Ghost pepper is a perfectly named ingredient for Halloween, and Domino’s will be adding it to the mystery pizza slice in liquid form, meaning it will blend in so that it’s totally indistinguishable from the rest of the pizza. Domino’s says only a small ampule will be used, though, so whoever gets the hot slice won’t be in too much pain when they bite into it.
The Halloween Roulette is an option that can be ordered with any type of pizza, on which one random slice will be spiked with the ghost pepper liquid at no extra charge. And for those in Japan, there’s a special campaign offering 20,000 yen (US$184) to 10 lucky people who post a photo or video of themselves enjoying (or perservering) with the Halloween Roulette pizza on Twitter, Instagram or TikTok, using the hashtag #ドミノハロウィンルーレット (Domino Halloween Roulette).
Entrants will need to follow the official Domino’s Japan account on Twitter, Instagram, or TikTok (whichever corresponds with the social media site you use to enter) to be in the running to win. Entries close on 4 November.

After burning your taste buds with the Roulette Pizza, diners can enjoy a decadent Halloween pizza dessert called the Triple Chocola.
▼ The Triple Chocola is only available in a medium size with ultra crispy crust for 999 yen plus tax.
This pizza contains three different types of chocolate toppings: A rich chocolate sauce; milky white chocolate pieces; and a Belgian couverture chocolate, which is known for having a high coca butter content.
We can’t wait to try these for ourselves to see how they compare to Max Brenner chocolate pizzas and the spicy Jalapeno-filled Tsundere. We’ll have to get in quick, though, as the Halloween Roulette and the Triple Chocola will only be on the menu at Domino’s from 14 October-4 November.
