Well now here’s an odd little promotion. Japanese gamers planning to pick up a copy of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, one of the prequel chapters in Hideo Kojima’s convoluted-plot-’em-up/stealth espionage action game series, are now being offered a special edition bundle that comes with a track jacket emblazoned with the logo of in-game mercenary unit “Diamond Dogs”.
The surprisingly stylish jackets are being produced by none other than sporting goods manufacturer Puma, and is listed on publisher and developer Konami’s products page for 17,839 yen (US$173) along with a copy of the game itself, which acts as a prologue for forthcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, in case you were starting to get confused by all the timeline hopping and multiple productions.
There is currently no indication that the jackets will be available in different sizes, however, so we have a feeling many of these will go straight on eBay or be stored away in the hopes that they will be worth selling off 15-20 years down the line.
The jackets will be made available alongside Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions of the game when it releases in Japan on March 20. Though in all honesty we think the bundle Japanese gamers – to whom the product is currently only being offered – will be most interested in is the one pictured immediately below.
▼ From the front, the jacket is fairly inconspicuous
▼ Worn outside of Japan, though, the rear logo might raise a few eyebrows
Head over to Konami’s online store for more info about the game and its very many special editions – there are some very cool Metal Gear figures to be drooled over!
