Gari-Gari Kun, arguably the best popsicle on the face of the earth, is no stranger to strange. The shaved ice-filled frozen treat from Japan has been served in a variety of weird flavors ranging from potato stew to Ultraman. Of course, Gari-Gari Kun also comes in more conventional flavors like kiwi and cola, but Akagi, makers of this fine dessert, never cease to provide wild new versions for those tired of normal. Just take a look at the company’s latest Gari-Gari Kun, which takes a cue from a savory italian dish: spaghetti napolitana.
Officially called Neapolitan Gari-Gari Kun, it is rumored to include tomato sauce-flavored shaved ice and a conventional popsicle coating, also flavored like a bowl of pasta. It will also have bits of tomato gelatin sprinkled throughout the popsicle’s center. Our first sneak peak of the Neapolitan Gari-Gari Kun is through the picture below, which was posted on Twitter. The image has garnered over 15,000 retweets – that’s more than the average cute cat photo!
For now it seems the Neapolitan-flavored popsicle hasn’t hit store shelves yet, but when it does, will frozen tomato gelatin-filled pasta sauce be a hit with the public or will it serve as a simple gimmick? Only time and consumer tastebuds will tell.
