Join our Japanese writer on a taste-test of dreams. We promise this is the only birthday cake you’ll ever need!
Denny’s in Japan is little to nothing like the diner-style restaurant you’d find in the US, but it still manages to offer a variety of foods for every taste, and even offers an all-you-can-eat pancake service at participating locations. And who doesn’t love pancakes? Better yet, who doesn’t love FREE pancakes?
▼ “Pancakes? I hate pancakes.” Said no one ever.

Since it really doesn’t get much better than free pancakes, our Japanese writer Sachi was thrilled to discover that Denny’s has a special birthday coupon for a free “dessert present”, which you can use any time during the month of your birthday.
To get your birthday coupon, simply register to become a member on the Denny’s mobile application “デニモバクラブ” (Deni-moba kurabu) on your cell- or smartphone. There are a number of coupons you can get, but by far the most special is the one you’ll receive for your birthday.
Since our Sachi celebrates her birthday this month, she was more than willing to take her special coupon to Denny’s to try out the free birthday dessert. Redeeming the coupon was simple: all she had to do was show the waitress the coupon from her phone when she placed her order, and within no time, her dreams became reality.
A stack of three fluffy pancakes, mounds of melty vanilla and chocolate ice cream, sliced banana, mixed berries, all drizzled with chocolate sauce, was placed in front of her. For a moment, Sachi couldn’t believe her eyes, nor could she believe that she was getting this scrumptious mound of delight simply for having been born.
Once the shock wore off, she set to work against the beast. Knife and fork in hand, she fought against the fruit and ice cream to get a bite of the soft, golden pancakes.
It was Sachi’s first time to try Denny’s pancakes, and she felt that they lived up to their fluffy, sweet reputation.
▼ Destroyed
If you’re dining with friends or family, Denny’s will give you extra plates so you can share, which Sachi so kindly did. But we wouldn’t fault you if you didn’t…
Happily satisfied with her birthday treat, Sachi recommends everyone to get the coupon take advantage of their special day. She does caution, however, that as it is not specified exactly what dessert the coupon qualifies for, it is possible that what each person gets may be different. If it does differ, though, we hope it will be at least as magical.
