Unlike previous methods, this one doesn’t require you to own any special equipment.
There’s a certain sweet spot you have to hit if you’re looking to get around the walking distance required to hatch eggs in smash-hit mobile game Pokémon GO. Sure, you want to hatch them as soon as possible, but if you move too quickly, the game will judge that you’re in a car, train, or some other kind of vehicle, and thus negate your progress.
Still, inventive gamers have found ways to avoid doing any legwork for the game, with methods including giving their phone a ride on a model train or gently tapping it with a handheld massager. But now comes a clever idea for those who hate walking yet don’t own any motorized toys or personal wellness gadgets, as shared by Japanese Twitter user @Rock_ozanari.

“I’ve got a chubby friend who has some pretty high-level Pokémon in Pokémon GO,” begins @Rock_ozanari, who then adds, “So I said to him, ‘You must have walked all over, so you’ve probably lost weight, right?”
Many of the game’s supporters assert that what makes Pokémon GO great isn’t just the Pocket Monster-based fun, but the way it promotes a healthy lifestyle by encouraging players to get some exercise as they go out and explore their towns. And sure, @Rock_ozanari’s friend has been out and about catching and training Pokémon, but he’s discovered a free, easy way to get around the city that doesn’t involve lifting his own feet, as he answered the question about walking with:
“Dude, you know me. There’s no way I’d do all that walking. They have those flat escalator things at [Tokyo’s] Shibuya Station and [shopping center] Sunshine City, so I just stand on them and let them take me around while I play.”
Yes, it turns out that @Rock_ozanari’s exercise-averse buddy has simply been making his way to urban attractions and parking himself on their moving walkways in his quest to catch ‘em all. Granted, there’s probably a bit of walking involved in getting to those locations in the first place, but still, this is further proof that if you’re looking to fill up your Pokédex while hardly adding to your pedometer count, there are ways it can be done.
