These Darth Vader and Stormtrooper snack dispensers just might be tempting enough to sway you to the dark side!
Takara Tomy A.R.T.S., a subsidiary of Japanese toy franchise Takara Tomy Group, has recently announced a gadget that’s sure to delight Star Wars fans and also keep them nourished with tasty tidbits as well. It’s the “Star Wars Otsumami (snack) Server” and it comes in a Darth Vader and Stormtrooper design!
The mask-shaped snack dispenser, which stands 23 centimeters (9 inches) tall, is not only cool to look at, but fun to use. You place your hand under it, and voila, a sensor-triggered response from the machine will reward you with a small serving of munchies accompanied with one of several sound effects, including famous lines from the Star Wars movies.
The Darth Vader version is programmed to speak lines such as “I am your father“, “As you wish” and “Yes, my master“, as well as generating sounds including Lord Vader’s characteristic breathing and the buzzing light saber vibrations, while dispensing the snacks.
The Stormtrooper version will generate sounds such as the phrases: “Don’t move” and “Freeze!“, as well as the familiar blasts of their signature blaster rifles.
But that’s not all. What makes this snack dispenser even more fun is that it comes with a special “party mode” in addition to the regular “normal mode”. In normal mode, the machine simply gives you a small mouthful worth of snacks each time you activate it. But once you set it to party mode, the server will occasionally dispense at random a whole handful of goodies while The Imperial March theme song plays, accompanied with a Star Wars line associated with the Dark Side, such as “Luke, it is your destiny.”
▼ Here’s what the packaging looks like:
The Star Wars Otsumami Server will go on sale starting December 14 at a price of 6,980 yen (US$63) and will be available at retailers and toy stores across Japan as well as from the Takara Tomy A.R.T.S. online shop.
So, a snack server that provides good party entertainment and can also be displayed as a high-quality 1/2 scale replica mask? Yup, we can definitely imagine a lot of Star Wars fans coveting this gadget come mid-December!
