The rest of the world may currently be in love with Sony’s newest controller, the DualShock 4, but gamers in Japan evidently still have a big soft spot for the ageing PlayStation 2 control pad, the DualShock 2.
What you can see in the image above is not, in fact, a row of the now 13-year-old controllers as viewed from a great height, but a new set of earphone jack plugs, and the level of detail is simply astounding.
Measuring just 30mm (1.18 inches) long, these “earphone jack mascots” feature every single detail from the original DualShock 2 controller. The classic PlayStation logo; the arrows engraved alongside the four d-pad points; the analogue switch; even the line where the two halves of the controller’s outer casing meet is faithfully recreated. They even have a fake analogue on/off LED!
With the PlayStation brand fast approaching its 20th birthday, otaku shopping site AmiAmi is currently taking orders for these tiny controllers, which are expected to go on sale in April next year.
The MiniShocks, as we’re calling them in the RocketNews24 office, will be available in packs of six featuring black, white, silver, pink, blue and one “secret” controller, though there’s no guaranteeing that you’ll be able to get one of each colour with just one purchase. But really, as cute as these things are, do you really need more than five of your mobile devices’ earphone jacks protected?
