The latest figurine to join the popular Movie Realisation series is a samurai stormtrooper which comes complete with battle flag, conch shell and an impressive taiko drum!
We’ve been wide-eyed at every new release from Tamashii Nation’s awesome samurai-themed series. We’ve seen Darth Vader, Boba Fett, the Akazone Royal Guard, and even a couple of stormtroopers touting flintlock-style guns. Now it’s time for a new stormtrooper to join the lineup, and he’s bringing some traditional items to the field of battle.
Called the ‘Taikoyaku Stormtrooper’, (‘Drummer Stormtrooper’), the most striking part of this character’s get-up is the giant taiko drum attached to his chest. Used in feudal battles to ward off evil and strengthen the courage of young warriors marching into battle, the drum also features a traditional mitsudomoe design commonly used by samurai as it represents the Shinto war deity Hachiman.
The Stormtrooper also comes with a military banner called a nobori, which flies the Imperial insignia, and a conch shell called a horagai, which was traditionally used as a battlefield horn.
He might not come with a fancy katana sword or any flintlock-style guns, but with these traditional accessories, and some switch-out hands to equip them, you’ll have hours of fun propping him up in different poses.
Standing at just over 6.5 inches tall, the Taikoyaku Stormtrooper is available for 8,856 yen (US$74) and can be pre-ordered now for delivery in June 2016.
