Establishment boasts 88,200 possible parfaits in the geisha district of Japan’s ancient capital city.
Gion Tsujiri is a Kyoto tea and confectioner founded in 1860 that specializes in the green tea grown in nearby Uji City. We’ve previously featured them as the maker of the green tea lip balm and springtime sweets that are just as pleasing for the eye as for the palate. The same company also owns Saryo Tsujiri, a cafe chain with its main branch located in the Gion district of Kyoto. Sayo Tsujiri sells all manner of green tea-themed sweets and even includes an educational element, teaching patrons the correct way to pour and drink tea.

As of February 5, the company is now offering a limited-time deal at the main Gion branch only: the “Tsujiri custom-made parfait” (also known as the “order-made parfait”) on sale for 1,301 yen (US$11.80). Instead of choosing from a menu of pre-crafted delectable bites, this item now puts you in charge of choosing your own ice cream and toppings for a unique parfait to fit your tastes. You can customize everything from the tea-flavored whipped cream on top to the flavor of the ice cream, along with uniquely Japanese sweets such as green tea jelly and shiratama (mochi dumplings).
When every possible combination of every possible ingredient is added up, there are supposedly 88,200 unique parfaits waiting to be savored!
▼ Note the existence of brown hojicha (roasted tea) as well as pink sakura (cherry blossom)-flavored ingredients as well.
Part of the fun is marking your ingredient selections for each part of the parfait on an illustrated card before ordering:

The deal is on at the main Gion branch of Saryo Tsujiri until February 28, so you may want to put in a request for vacation time now if you’ve been waiting for the perfect excuse to visit Kyoto before the end of the month.
