Learn ninjutsu techniques and then use them to slay monsters in the VR world.
In Japan, the spirit of the shinobi remains strong, with trick houses, a shadow warrior academy and even ninja taxi drivers on hand to keep the culture alive in today’s modern world.
Now, there’s a brand new ninja experience coming to Tokyo, and it looks set to be one of the most immersive in the country, as it blends the real world with the world of virtual reality. Called VR Ninja Dojo, the new attraction promises to be “an exciting 21st-century blend of cosplay, virtual reality, and theatre“, as visitors will first dress and train as shadow warriors before donning a VR headset to slay monsters with their newly acquired skills.
This promotional video gives you an idea of what to expect at the new VR Ninja Dojo.
And for a more in-depth look at the gameplay inside the virtual world, take a look at the clip below.
The VR world, which looks pretty awesome, allows gamers to use a variety of sword techniques, special magic ninjutsu attacks, and shuriken throwing stars to defeat foes, including big bosses that tower over you at the end of the level.
While it might look a bit daunting for first-timers, the VR content company behind the dojo, Five for, says the attraction is suitable for both adults and children from the age of seven upwards. Plus, all visitors undergo “combat and magic training” before stepping foot in the virtual world, to ensure they get the most out of the VR experience.
Each session, which lasts for 75-90 minutes and is available for groups of one to ten, includes the following:
♦ Ninja costume (not to be taken home)
♦ Ninja training in the real and virtual worlds
♦ Initiation test (VR experience)
♦ Commemorative VR photo
♦ Scroll certificate presentation
▼ Once you’ve completed the training and VR experience, you’ll “graduate” as a fully-fledged ninja with your very own ninja scroll!
While the Ninja Dojo is open to anyone and everyone, the sessions are all conducted in English as the experience is primarily aimed at foreign tourists. However, foreign nationals who come with a Japanese national will be able to receive a two-for-the-price-of-one deal, and Japanese-only experiences are available by special request.
The VR Ninja Dojo will open in Tokyo’s Chiyoda Ward on 18 March. Tickets cost 8,000 yen (US$71.51) each, although special opening price tickets are available for 6,500 yen. So be sure to book online to secure some discounted tickets while you can…and then prepare for your visit with these special ninja hand techniques.
