One of the simple pleasures of summer is all the amazing sweet fruit in season, like watermelon, cherries, apricots, berries and peaches. Now Freshness Burger have come up with a way to combine one of your favourite summer fruits with the humble hamburger. The latest item on their special menu is a peach burger, which went on sale August 14. If you can’t decide whether you want something sweet or savoury to snack on, this burger should do the trick!
The peach burger is a classic beef patty burger with all your traditional favourite fillings, such as bacon, tomatoes, onion, mascarpone cheese, lettuce, and the not-so-traditional topping of a slice of juicy Yamanashi peach. Yamanashi Prefecture is famous for its peaches and, incidentally, is the largest producer of peaches in Japan. This is one burger that you don’t need to feel guilty about eating…it counts as fruit, right?!
The burger seems quite a mouthful and definitely sounds fruity and flavourful. You’ve pretty much covered your basic major food groups all in the palm of your hand! Though it may seem odd, the addition of the popular stoned fruit isn’t really all that different from having a slice of pineapple in your hamburger. It probably just adds a hint of sweetness to refresh the palate.
If that’s not enough peach to satisfy your taste buds, though, you can wash down the fruit burger with a peach smoothie. The peach smoothie is made from peach juice and topped with whipped cream and diced peach. The fruity-sweet refreshing beverage is perfect for summer and definitely a welcome change from the usual soft drink on offer at most fast food joints.
A fruit burger may seem like a bizarre concept, but this peach burger is actually one of the tamer offerings we’ve seen from Freshness Burder. According to the menu lineup on their website, they’ve also sold a handful of other interesting burgers in the past, limited to stores in certain prefectures depending on local produce. For example, in Chiba Prefecture, there was the peanut butter and asparagus burger, as well as a cheese fondue burger in Tochigi Prefecture and a gyoza burger from Japan’s gyoza capital, Utsunomiya City, also in Tochigi.
If you want to get your hands on one of these peach burgers, you’ll need to make your way to Yamanashi Prefecture’s Freshness Burger Kofu branch as that’s the only place it’s sold! Don’t worry — the drive should only take you about two hours from Tokyo! After that trek, the peach burger will only cost you 630 yen (US$5) plus tax and the peach smoothie is an additional 430 yen (US$3.50) plus tax.
If you’re in the area and have the opportunity to try one, let us know how you like it in the comments!
