The video game developer always makes aesthetics a priority in its software, and it looks like it’s doing the same for its new restaurant in Akihabara.
Video game developer Square Enix’s ambitions seem to have expanded beyond making great games, and now apparently include making great food, too. Before the end of the year, not only does it have two major software releases planned (World of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy XV), the company will also be opening two separate restaurants in Tokyo next month.
We’ve already talked about the e-sports bar that’s nearing completion in the Ikebukuro neighborhood, and now Square Enix is giving us the first glimpses of the Square Enix Cafe, which will be opening its doors in Akihabara, Tokyo’s biggest electronics and anime shoping district, on October 1.
Unlike the dedicated Final Fantasy XIV restaurant (that’s also in Akihabara), the Square Enix cafe will periodically rotate its theme to shine the spotlight on different Square Enix games, adding new menu items and interior touches for each.
First up, and no surprise, is a Final Fantasy XV menu, and don’t worry, that doesn’t mean Cup Noodles. Preview videos of the upcoming RPG have gotten gamer’s mouths watering at the extremely detailed graphics for the campsite cookout fare enjoyed by its heroes, and the Square Enix Cafe will be serving up a recreation of one of the game’s hearty stews, along with other, yet to-be-revealed Final Fantasy XV delicacies.

The cafe will also have a standing menu, which looks like it’ll be hard for anyone with an appetite to resist, regardless of whether or not he or she is a gamer.
▼ Japanese Joshu beef burger with avocado (1,350 yen [US$13.10])
▼ Iberian pork cheese burger (1,350 yen)
▼ Roast beef burger (1,350 yen)
▼ Roast beef with rice (1,350 yen)
▼ Dipping pancakes with strawberries, whipped cream, and sweet beans (850 yen)
And, of course, there’ll be an attached shop where you can purchase related merchandise like smartphone cases, towels, plastic document files, and even decorative tape.
As with many themed cafes in Japan, you’ll need to make a reservation in advance, which can be done here through convenience store Lawson’s online ticketing service, with a charge of 500 yen per member of your party.
