It’s time to stand up and be counted, and help choose the coolest stuff to ever come out of the entire 40-year universe of Gundam.
Starting 2 March, the vast population of Gundam fans are being asked to hit the polls and vote for their favorite stuff from any of the 59 Gundam TV shows, movies, and OVAs that have been created up to 2017’s Gundam Build Fighter Battlogue.
There are four main categories to choose from: Works, Mobile Suits [Mecha], Characters, and Songs. While that may sound simple at first, this vote is including every single one of those things that has appeared since Mobile Suit Gundam debuted in 1979. First, voters can select only one of the series’ iterations such as Mobile Suit Z Gundam, Gundam-W Endless Waltz, and even the kinda weird SD Gundam Sankokuden Brave Battle Warriors.

Then, voters will be asked to select from the over 2,000 characters that have ever appeared in a Gundam work. Given the sheer number, the organizers are being kind and letting us vote for five per person. However, you cannot vote for the same character multiple times.
The Mobile Suit catagory is also massive with over 900 pieces of technology to select from not just including bipedal mobile suits but many other vehicles and weapons as well. Voters can choose three, but again, only one mecha per vote.
▼ Fear not all you millions of Oggo fans out there,
your voices will be heard too!

Finally, the perhaps often-overlooked rich collection of music that has graced the series over these many years. There are over 200 songs, in fact, among which voters must select two.
▼ A few tracks from Gackt such as “Mind Forest”
are among the collection of song to choose from
Voting will be held from 2 March to midnight on 20 April. Then the results will be announced at a massive televised event titled The All-Gundam Grand Vote (Zen-Gundam Daitohyo) on 5 May on NHK BS Premium. The three-and-a-half-hour program will take a look back at Gundam‘s four-decade legacy while declaring the finalists in each category.
But before then, NHK BS Premium will air another hour-long retrospective, Reikishi Hiwa Gundam Historia on 2 April. During this they will announce the interim results giving die-hard supporters a chance to go out and campaign for your favorites while there’s still time left.
There doesn’t appear to be any restriction on voting from overseas either, so if you would also like to support a few of your favorite things from Gundam wherever you are, now is the chance (just as long as you can navigate the Japanese language voting site).
Once I find a way to get the lobster-shell MSN-04 Sazabi added as a write-in candidate, I’ll be right there with you!
