Hatsune Miku is now coming to a bento near you (that is if you have to time and patience to make her). The folks over at Japanese culture website, Kawaii Kakkoii Sugoi, have just created a step-by-step video explaining how to make an edible version of everyone’s favorite vocaloid.
1. Print out the Hatsune Miku picture you would like to use to make the bento. Kawaii Kakkoii Sugoi chose to use the official Hatsune Miku picture.
2. Separate the whites of two eggs and add a few drops of blue food coloring. Whisk together.
3. Pour the blue egg white mixture into a well-oiled pan. Spread evenly.
4. Once the eggs are cooked on one side, remove them from the pan and let cool.
For those who enjoy fully cooked eggs, Kawaii Kakkoii Sugoi suggests flipping the eggs and cooking them for an additional ten seconds.
5. Cut out the Hatsune Miku picture to fit the dimensions of your bento box.
6. Place wax paper on top of the egg, then lay your picture on top of the wax paper. Finally, wrap everything together with plastic wrap.
7. Use an exacto knife to cut Hatsune Miku’s hair. Don’t eat the extra blue egg! You will need it later.
8. Next, securely tape the picture onto a piece of sliced cheese and cut out Hatsune Miku’s face and body.
9. Create her outfit by using nori (seaweed).
10. Create her accessories (shirt sleeves, tie, and eyes) using the blue egg.
11. Use nori (seaweed) for Hatsune Miku’s hair ribbons, headphones, eyebrows, and eye lids. Use ham for anything that is red.
12. Now assemble bento Hatsune Miku. Use red food coloring and a toothpick to draw her mouth and the number on her shoulder.
13. Place Hatsune Miku on a thin sheet of egg to easily transfer her into your bento box.
You can find more bento making videos on Kawaii Kakkoii Sugoi’s official YouTube Channel, theKKSshow and lots of cool stuff on their website.
