
We’ll show you how to order off the menu at Starbucks to create a mind-blowingly delicious frappucino that tastes like a cheesecake-based Tiramisu.
For a limited time back in 2013, Starbucks customers in Japan were able to order a delectable Tiramisu Frappuccino. The coffee-based drink was filled with chocolate brownie pieces and a layer of crunchy cocoa biscuits, topped off with a blended cream cheese mousse and a dusting of cocoa powder. While it’s yet to reappear in Japan, the release of the new Baked Cheesecake Frappuccino last month had our Japanese writers thinking they could use it to bring the famed tiramisu flavour back to life again.
The way to create any beverage of your choice from Starbucks is by using a secret “customisation menu”. Little known in Japan, the menu is so secret that even baristas won’t be sure of what you’re talking about if you mention it at the counter. Instead, customers need to know the “recipe” so they can make specific requests at the counter, and make use of some additional toppings to create the personalised drink. Our Japanese reporters started by first ordering a Baked Cheesecake Frappuccino (610 yen/US$5.76) and then requesting an additional espresso shot for 50 yen. After adding chocolate sauce to the order for free, the total for the new beverage came to a total of 660 yen.

The element that makes this look like an authentic Starbucks Tiramisu Frappucino is the dusting of cocoa powder, which was added after the order for free.
As for the flavour, our reporters said the alterations made the beverage taste better than the original Cheesecake Frappuccino. While there was no rich mascarpone flavour, the other main dessert elements – cheese, biscuit, coffee, and cocoa powder – really gave it a style and taste similar to a tiramisu. The cheesecake base brought a unique slant to the traditional flavours of the Italian dessert, making for a creamy drink full of crunch and plenty of coffee flavour.
The drink, of course, is always up for further customisation. If you prefer more sweetness, you can order extra chocolate chips for 50 yen, and if you’d like to add a little more cheese, you can put in a request for more whipped cream. The options and possibilities are endless – whatever you’d like to make, it’s entirely up to you!
