The Frappuccino sets out a new path for Starbucks as the company ventures out into tea territory with their latest release.
If there’s one thing we can’t get enough of in Japan, it’s the endless cycle of awesome new Frappuccinos from Starbucks. We’ve seen everything from matcha to cheesecake, melon sauce and cherry blossoms, and now the popular coffee house chain is mapping out a course into unchartered territory with a new base flavour that combines fruit with a creamy tea. Called the “Nectarine Peach Cream Frappuccino with Tea Bavarois”, the limited edition release features the sweet and refreshing flavours of nectarines and white and yellow peaches, combined with a rich milk tea bavarois, which is a firm cream dessert. The aromatic, flavour-filled combination is finished off with a generous topping of whipped cream and a drizzle of glossy strawberry and nectarine sauce.
Alongside the luxurious cold Frappuccino is a hot Nectarine Peach and Cream Tea beverage, which is made using a unique method that involves blending the warmed juice of nectarines and white and yellow peaches with a peach-flavoured Earl Grey Tea. Filled with aromatic fruit and lavender flavours, the hot drink is topped with the same cream-and-sauce topping as the limited-edition Frappuccino.
According to the company, the new drinks are the first of many tea-based beverages the company plans to release in the future. Available from 3 October, the Nectarine Peach Cream Frappuccino with Tea Bavarois will be available to purchase until 31 October for 560 yen (US$5.50) while the limited edition tea will be on sale from 3 October to 30 November for 430 – 550 yen.
