You’ll never guess who came in second place!

There aren’t many twins in the anime world, an unfortunate fact that producers should try to rectify from here on out for the sake of all anime fans. How else are cute identical twins going to get cool new cosplays?

Nevertheless, that just makes the anime twins who have appeared all the more special, winning over the hearts of fans. At the popular Japanese ranking website goo ranking, they recently got the opinions of 3,152 Japanese netizens on the matter and compiled a list of the top 10 cutest twin characters ever in the history of anime.

Here’s that list, in order. Starting at number 10 is:

10. Tomomi and Mikage Matsunaga (Miracle Girls, 105 votes)

Gifted with teleportation and telepathic abilities, the Matsunaga girls tackle daily school life while avoiding those who seek their power for their own purposes.

9. Cocoro and Cocoa Yazawa (Love Live!, 106 votes)

Adorable twins sisters of Nico Yazawa, they believe their older sister to be the main star of the school idol group. Cocoro sports a yellow ribbon and is considerably calmer than Cocoa, who is always active and energetic.

8. Lui and Lin (Fist of the North Star, 111 votes)

Orphaned when she was a child, Lin met protagonist Kenshiro in an encounter that would change her life forever. It wasn’t until much later that Lin discovers she has a twin sister, Lui the Celestial Empress.

7. Kururi and Mairu Orihara (Durarara!!, 118 votes)

There’s no stranger twin characters than the two sisters of antagonist Izaya Orihara. Adopting opposite personalities in order to feel unique in a bleak society, Kururi is quiet and reserved whereas Mairu is loud and outgoing.

6. Kagami and Tsukasa Hiiragi (Lucky Star, 148 votes)

Tsukasa’s sweet and innocent personality is at odds with Kagami’s frankness and tsundere qualities, but together they add some much-needed sensibility to the crazy antics found in Lucky Star.

5. Souseiseki and Suiseiseki (Rozen Maiden, 171 votes)

A popular choice among Rozen Maiden cosplayers, their mismatched eye colors also reflect their polar-opposite personalities.

4. Momo Belia and Nana Astar Deviluke (To LOVE-Ru, 190 votes)

Momo’s unending lust for protagonist Rito is a striking contrast to her sister Nana, who values friendship above all else.

3. Mion and Shion Sonozaki (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, 197 votes)

Anime fans who have watched the psychological horror series will know that Mion is the more mentally stable of the two, while mere mention of Shion sends shivers down anyone’s spine. How these two manage to climb up so high on a cuteness list however, remains a mystery.

2. Yubaba and Zeniba (Spirited Away, 331 votes)

The two imposing witches of Spirited Away should indeed rank high in this list, but we didn’t expect them to come in at the second spot.

1. Ram and Rem (Re:Zero, 473 votes)

The twin maids in Re:Zero seem to be the reigning queens as far as cuteness goes, winning the vote by a fair margin.

While we mostly agree with the list, what’s sorely missing is the presence of male twins, as the two mischievous brothers from Ouran High School Host Club should definitely be there. With that said, we reckon the list of most-dateable anime characters needs to be updated to include some of these twins too.
