Cheeky by name, cheeky by nature, this new limited-edition drink is the refreshing summer hit we’ve all been waiting for.
It’s never a dull moment at Starbucks in Japan, where each new season comes with a brand new exclusive limited-time offering. This summer, we’re being spoilt with the enticingly-named Peach on the Beach Frappuccino, and as soon as it went on sale today, our reporter Masami was first in line to get a taste of it.
▼ The new beverage comes in a tall size only, priced at 620 yen (US$5.70).
According to Starbucks, the new Frappuccino has been designed to recreate the sensation of eating a fresh peach, only in drinkable form. Containing real pieces of fresh white peach, along with peach juice, peach puree, and peach sauce, the new beverage also looks the part, with its lovely peach-pink swirls resembling the furry skin of a ripe peach.
The white portion of the drink, along with its white cream topping, helps to conjure up beachy images like the foam of a wave crashing on the shore.
With so many peach components inside the drink, Masami was prepared for her first mouthful to be filled with plenty of fruit-rich flavours. She also couldn’t wait to dive into the depths of the drink to catch all those fresh fruit pieces on her tongue.
Masami scooped up a generous serving of the drink and took her first taste. As she’d hoped, this was an homage to the pure, unadulterated flavour of peach, with its sweet and slightly astringent notes shining through the whipped cream topping.
Masami immediately told us this was hands-down the most refreshing Frappuccino she’d ever tasted, and given that she’s tried a lot of Starbucks Frappucinos in the past, that’s saying something.
The multi-layered peach sensation was so good that Masami said she’d happily have one every other day during summer. And with the new drink available until August 29, we all have just over a month to get hooked on it ourselves, and see how it really rates on this handy chart of Frappuccino flavours.
