Beautifully adorned tins featuring some of the studio’s beloved anime characters are being made for a limited time.
When it comes to stocking up on Studio Ghibli merchandise in Japan, Donguri Kyowakoku is the store to go to, and this winter they’ll have a brand new limited-edition product on their shelves. It’s a whole-body moisturising lotion called Steam Cream, and as the first skin care range to ever be offered by the chain of retail stores, there’s a lot of anticipation surrounding the release. Created in collaboration with SC Cosmetics, the company’s signature cream is given an anime makeover with four brand new tins featuring some of Studio Ghibli’s charming characters.
▼ From the 1995 film, Whisper of the Heart, are the Dwarf King and Elf Queen.
▼ And the Baron and Louise.
The other Studio Ghibli film to get the moisturising body treatment is Kiki’s Delivery Service, with Kiki herself pictured flying across one of the tins on her flying broomstick.
▼ And her magical black cat Jiji, striking an animated pose.
The characters, which appear on the tins as pale watercolour-painted images, are said to add a soft touch to the overall look of the new skincare products.
Each 75-gram (2.6-ounce) tin is set to retail for 1,620 yen (US$15.55), with the range appearing early at the Lucua Osaka branch of Donguri Kyowakoku on 3 December, ahead of the official sale date of 10 December at Donguri Kyowakoku stores around the country.
