Customers can enjoy tuna, sea urchin, and egg creations at Japan’s newest Kit Kat Chocolatory.
Nestlé Japan is continually tantalising our tastebuds with new and exciting Kit Kat varieties, and one of the most exciting – and exclusive – of the bunch is the rare Sushi Kit Kat. Never available for sale, these little beauties started off as an April Fools’ Day joke back in 2016, before being released in real life as gifts for 500 customers to help celebrate the opening of the company’s stand-alone Chocolatory boutique store in Ginza last year.

Now, Nestlé has just announced the opening of a brand new Kit Kat Chocolatory, this time inside Itami Osaka International Airport, and to celebrate, the boutique will be offering some very special items that won’t be available elsewhere.
There’ll be two “Special Assortment” boxes, containing three lots of four “Chocolatory Special” series chocolates, with one featuring the lucky image of Ebisu, the god of fishermen and luck, especially appropriate for business purposes, and another emblazoned with the word “Ookini“, which means “thank you” in Osaka’s Kansai-region dialect.
What will have customers really flocking to the new store, though, is the chance to receive one of 570 Sushi Kit Kats, which will be handed out to the first thirty customers who spend over 3,000 yen (US$27.96), every day from the store’s opening on 18 April through to 6 May.
▼ Each three-piece Sushi Kit Kat set includes: one maguro (tuna) version, which is topped with a raspberry flavoured Kit Kat.
▼ An uni (sea urchin) variety, which is made with a slice of seaweed wrapped around a Hokkaido Melon with Mascarpone Cheese flavoured Kit Kat
▼ And a tamago (egg) sushi, featuring a Banana flavoured Kit Kat and a sliver of nori seaweed.
All the Sushi Kit Kats come with a rice-puff base that’s been coated with white couverture chocolate and mixed with a dash of wasabi powder for a unique accent and a surprising hit of flavour.
These are some of the rarest Kit Kats you’ll ever try, so be sure to get in line before the store opens every day until 6 May to get your hands on a set! And don’t forget to pair your chocolate sushi feast with a fine Sake Kit Kat, for a true Japanese experience.
