These are some literally cool cats.
There’s a Japanese phrase, yokaze ni ataru, which means to step outside and enjoy the nighttime breeze. It’s something that you’re most likely to hear people talking about near this time of year, when Japan’s hot, humid summer weather patterns kick in, turning many homes and other enclosed spaces into a sticky, uncomfortable place to be unless you’ve got the AC going full-blast.
Of course, if you’ve got a screen door you might be able to have the best of both worlds by letting the cooling nocturnal winds flow into your living room. And if you’re a cat, well then you can go one step even further, like this kitty owned by Japanese Twitter user @syaruruuu.

“A huge lizard showed up in my house,” joked @syaruruuu, prompting responses such as:
“That’s one fuzzy lizard!”
“Whoa, he’s like Spider-Man.”
“Looks like Spider-Cat to me.”
But it turns out @syaruruuu’s pet isn’t the only one to take this vaguely reptilian tack in beating the summer heat, as other Twitter users quickly shared pictures of their own cats adopting similar tactics.

Sadly, this is an idea we humans won’t be able to copy, at least not without some extra-strong screens and a lot of nail-filing. At least the kitties are keeping cool, though, and keeping us entertained at the same time.
As long as you’re not using both hands to hang on to your screen door right now, why not see what Casey is up to on Twitter?
