Soft-hearted Digital Monster is now a soft ergonomic helper.

Although fans with an in-depth knowledge of both series will argue that Pokémon and Digimon are trying to do very separate things thematically and narratively, their surface similarities will always link the two franchises in many casual observers’ minds. Both series started in the late 1990s, went on to have numerous video game and anime installments, and of course, end in “-mon,” all of which can lead some uninformed observers to label Digimon as a sort of off-brand Pokémon.

That’s got to be sort of vexing for Digimon loyalists, but today we’re looking at one way fans are no doubt happy their series of choice is resembling Pokémon. Earlier this week, we saw a new PC cushion from anime merchandiser Bandai that’s shaped like Pocket Monster Meowth, but the company is also taking preorders for a cushion/plushie in the image of Digimon’s Gabumon.

Gabumon might seem a bit of an odd choice to get the stuffed animal treatment, considering his occasionally fierce-looking appearance in the Digimon anime. But just like there’s a reptilian Digimon hiding under that wolf’s pelt, there’s a kind heart beating under the creature’s somewhat intimidating exterior, making him a suitable companion as you stay up late doing online research for your latest project or writing emails to friends and family.

As is standard with Bandai’s character-based PC cushions, the plush “keyboard” can be detached and used as a wrist rest. Just like the pad that came with fellow Digimon Agumon’s PC cushion, Gabumoon’s keyboard contains Digimoji script, as seen in the anime.

▼ I’m just going to assume that all of that red on the edges of the screen means that the PC’s browser is pointed to RocketNews24, and say thanks to Gabumon for reading.

Preorders for the 5,616-yen (US$50) Gabumon PC cushion can be made here through the Premium Bandai website between now and February 28, with shipping scheduled for March.

And if you want to become a Digimon Tamer yourself, be sure to check out Digimon bags and shoes that will make you feel like you and Gabumon are computering right inside the Digiverse.
