Okay, Sailor Moon fans, here’s another gadget from Toy maker Bandai for you to seriously covet, as if there weren’t enough of them already. This time, Bandai’s newest Sailor Moon offering comes in the shape of an adorable pen, and what makes it extra special is that it’s a re-creation of a toy that was sold by Bandai over 20 years ago. Now, that should provide some excitement for old-time fans!
Available for pre-order on the Premium Bandai online shopping site starting this week, the “Light Transformation Pen (Raito na Henshin Pen)” is priced at 4,880yen (US$48). All right, that may sound a bit steep for a pen, but this cute gadget not only functions as a regular pen, but its red jewel top glows and acts as a light when you press down on the clip. The coating on the pink body of the pen also gives it a lovely pearly hue.

This pen is actually the second in a series of past Bandai Sailor Moon merchandise that have been newly reproduced, which they’re calling the “Moonlight Memory Series”, the first being the duo of the Crystal Mirror Case and the Cosmic Heart Mirror Case which were sold exclusively by pre-order in December last year. The previous version of the Light Transformation Pen was sold in 1992 and was a huge hit, with sales at the time exceeding 200,000. They’ve even recreated the packaging so the pen comes in a box very similar to the one from back in 1992, which should prove to be quite a source of nostalgia for long-time fans.
Like the first items in the Moonlight Memory Series, the new Light Transformation Pen is also available by pre-order only until April 28, but they may sell out before that. Just call it a hunch, but we have a sneaky feeling that the new version of the pen, like its original, may prove to be extremely popular. But then, writing with this pen definitely looks like it would be a whole lot of fun, so we really can’t blame people for wanting one of them, can we?
